James Kennon

Principal Architect

Being the third generation involved in the building industry and pursuing both a bachelor of science in design and master of architecture from Clemson University molded James’ appreciation for architecture and the building process. Living in center city Philadelphia and then watching his native Nashville explode into one of the most desirable cities, gives James a unique perspective on the purpose of buildings within the context of the city they inhabit.

In his over 30 years of experience, he has been involved in the design and implementation of building projects which vary from pharmaceutical laboratory facilities, research and development facilities, office buildings, religious structures, educational and sports facilities projects for both public and private and for secondary and post-secondary institutions, civic facilities including libraries, police stations, courthouses and similar projects.  James particularly appreciates the balance between project specific expertise and approaching each project with a renewed viewpoint.

As a principal of the architect WORKSHOP, James draws upon this rich background of previous experiences with small and large scale projects and challenging project types to guide each project through the programming, design, and construction process in an appropriate, yet unique, comprehensive and responsible manner. Also as mentor to his staff, he encourages a studio culture that values each project as both a response to the integrity of architecture and to the priorities of the client.
